NDIS insurance for disability and aged care providers

Disability support and aged care providers look after some of the most vulnerable people in our community, and the insurance that protects your business needs to reflect that. Whether you're a registered NDIS provider, an independent support worker, a home care business, an allied health practitioner or a residential care operator, we arrange cover that meets your obligations and protects you, your staff and your clients across Australia.

Risks disability and aged care providers face

  • Clients injured during personal care, transfers or outings
  • Allegations of abuse, neglect or inappropriate conduct
  • Medication errors or incorrect care advice
  • Damage to clients' homes or belongings while providing support
  • Accidents while transporting clients in your vehicle
  • Breaches of sensitive health and personal information

What NDIS insurance usually includes

Public Liability Insurance

Covers injury to clients and others, and damage to their property, while you provide support in homes, the community or your premises.

Professional Indemnity Insurance

Covers claims that your care, advice or services caused harm or loss, often combined with malpractice cover for allied health and nursing.

Motor Vehicle and Fleet Insurance

Cover for business vehicles used to transport clients, including fleets for larger providers.

Cyber Insurance

Response costs and liability if client health records or personal information are compromised.

What to check before you buy

Check how your liability policy treats allegations of abuse or molestation. Many standard policies exclude or limit this cover, which is critical for anyone working with vulnerable people, so specific cover may be needed. If support workers use their own cars to transport clients, their personal car insurance may not cover business use. Registered NDIS providers should make sure their insurance suits the size and scope of their services, and check what participants, plan managers and partner organisations require. Injuries to your own staff are covered by workers compensation through your state's scheme, which is separate from the covers on this page.

Why work with a broker?

Policies that look similar on price can differ a great deal in what they pay for. As your broker, we act on your behalf: we ask the right questions about your business, compare options, explain the fine print in plain language and support you through any claim, wherever you are in Australia.

Common questions

Do NDIS providers need insurance?

Registered NDIS providers are expected to hold insurance appropriate to the size and scope of their services, and many participants, plan managers and organisations ask for proof of public liability and professional indemnity before engaging a provider. Unregistered providers and independent support workers often need the same covers to work with agencies and support platforms.

Does public liability cover abuse allegations?

Not always. Many public liability policies exclude or limit claims involving abuse or molestation. Providers working with children, people with disability or older people should check their policy carefully, and specific abuse cover can often be arranged.

Are support workers covered when driving clients in their own cars?

Personal car policies may not cover business use, such as transporting clients for payment, unless it has been declared to the insurer. Injuries to people are covered by CTP through each state's scheme, but damage to the vehicle and third-party property depends on the motor policy. Check with your insurer, or ask us to review it.

What is medical malpractice insurance?

Malpractice insurance covers claims arising from treatment or care provided by health professionals, such as nurses, physiotherapists and occupational therapists. It's often combined with professional indemnity and public liability in one policy for allied health and care providers.

Do I need cyber insurance if I hold client health records?

It's strongly recommended. Health service providers are generally covered by the Privacy Act regardless of their turnover, and a data breach involving health information may need to be reported under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme. Cyber insurance helps cover incident response, notification and legal costs.

How to get a quote

Getting a quote for your business is simple, and there is no obligation. Call Carly on 0497 100 469 or send an email with your business name and ABN, a short description of what you do, your approximate turnover and number of staff, a copy of your current policy schedule if you have one, and details of any claims in the last five years.

If your contracts or lease set specific insurance requirements, send those too.

We will ask a few questions about your operations, approach suitable insurers on your behalf and come back with options explained in plain language, including what is and isn't covered. Once you choose, we arrange your cover and send your documents, then review it with you at every renewal so your insurance keeps pace with your business.
