What to check before you buy
If your plant is driven on public roads, it may need registration, CTP and motor-style cover in addition to mobile equipment insurance. Also check how the policy treats underground or overturning risks, operator requirements, theft security conditions and plant left on unattended sites.
Why arrange mobile equipment insurance through a broker?
Policies that look similar on price can differ a great deal in what they actually pay for. As your broker, we act on your behalf. We’ll ask the right questions, compare options, explain the fine print in plain language and be there to support you if you need to make a claim, wherever you are in Australia.
Mobile Equipment and Plant Insurance: common questions
Does mobile equipment insurance cover breakdown?
Mechanical and electrical breakdown is usually excluded or offered as a separate extension. We can arrange machinery breakdown cover if you need it.
Is hired plant covered?
Many policies can cover plant you hire in from others, or plant you hire out, but it needs to be specifically arranged.
Does it cover plant used on public roads?
Registered plant used on roads may need motor insurance and CTP as well. We'll make sure there are no gaps between policies.
What information do I need to insure my plant?
Have the make, model, year, serial number and value of each item, along with where it’s stored, how it’s used, who operates it, whether you hire it in or out, and your security arrangements. The more accurate the details, the better your cover and the faster any claim.
Can I insure older machinery?
Yes. Older plant can often be insured at market or agreed value. Some insurers set age limits for certain types of cover or ask for condition details, so let us know the age and condition of your machinery and we’ll find a suitable option.
