Who needs motor vehicle and fleet insurance?

  • Tradies with utes, vans and work vehicles
  • Businesses running fleets of cars, trucks or light commercials
  • Transport and logistics operators
  • Businesses with vehicles carrying tools or signage
  • Individuals wanting a broker to manage their private car cover

What motor vehicle insurance can cover

Every policy is different. Depending on the insurer and options you choose, cover can include:

  • Comprehensive accidental damage, fire and theft
  • Third party property damage liability
  • Fleet policies covering multiple vehicles and drivers
  • Hire vehicle after an accident or theft, where included
  • Tools of trade and signwriting extensions
  • Windscreen, new-for-old and agreed or market value options

What to check before you buy

Compulsory third party (CTP) insurance, which covers injuries to people, is separate and arranged through your state's registration scheme. For business vehicles, we check that the policy covers how the vehicle is really used, who drives it, and whether tools and equipment inside are covered. Fleet policies can offer real savings and simpler admin once you have several vehicles.

Why arrange motor vehicle insurance through a broker?

Policies that look similar on price can differ a great deal in what they actually pay for. As your broker, we act on your behalf. We’ll ask the right questions, compare options, explain the fine print in plain language and be there to support you if you need to make a claim, wherever you are in Australia.

Motor Vehicle and Fleet Insurance: common questions

Does comprehensive car insurance cover injuries to people?

No. Injury to people is covered by CTP insurance, which is part of vehicle registration in each state. Comprehensive covers damage to vehicles and property.

When should I move to a fleet policy?

Many insurers offer fleet policies from around five vehicles. A fleet policy can simplify admin and often provides broader cover and better pricing.

Are tools in my ute covered by motor insurance?

Usually only to a small limit, if at all. Tools are better covered under a general property or tools policy, which we can arrange.

Are my employees covered when they drive business vehicles?

Commercial and fleet policies usually cover authorised drivers, though higher excesses often apply to young or inexperienced drivers, and some policies restrict who can drive. Let us know who drives your vehicles so the policy matches how your business works.

What’s the difference between agreed value and market value?

Agreed value means you and the insurer agree on the vehicle’s value when the policy starts, and that’s what you’ll be paid if it’s written off. Market value is what the vehicle is worth at the time of the loss, which can be lower. Agreed value gives more certainty, sometimes at a higher premium.

How to get a motor vehicle and fleet insurance quote

Getting a quote is simple, and there is no obligation. Call Carly on 0497 100 469 or send an email with your business name and ABN, a short description of what you do, your approximate turnover and number of staff, a copy of your current policy schedule if you have one, and details of any claims in the last five years.

If your contracts or lease set specific insurance requirements, send those too.

We will ask a few questions about your operations, approach suitable insurers on your behalf and come back with options explained in plain language, including what is and isn’t covered. Once you choose, we arrange your cover and send your documents, then review it with you at every renewal so your insurance keeps pace with your business.
