Farm insurance for Australian farmers

Your farm is your home, your business and often your family's legacy. Farm insurance brings together cover for the farmhouse, sheds, machinery, livestock, crops and fencing, plus the liability risks that come with running a rural business. We work with farmers and rural businesses Australia-wide to build cover that reflects how your property actually operates.

Who needs farm insurance?

  • Grazing, cropping and mixed farming enterprises
  • Dairy, horticulture and specialist producers
  • Hobby farms and lifestyle properties
  • Rural contractors and agricultural businesses
  • Family farms with homes and business assets on one property

What farm insurance can cover

Every policy is different. Depending on the insurer and options you choose, cover can include:

  • Farm buildings, homes, sheds and contents
  • Farm machinery, plant and equipment
  • Livestock, including theft and accidental death options
  • Hay, harvested crops and stored produce
  • Fencing, including fire and flood damage options
  • Farm liability, business interruption and farm motor vehicles

What to check before you buy

Bushfire and flood exposure, the value of fencing and the way livestock are covered vary a lot between policies, so we'll go through each with you. Underinsurance is common on farms because rebuilding sheds and replacing machinery costs more than people expect. We'll also check that farm liability covers activities like agistment, contracting work for neighbours or farm stays.

Why arrange farm insurance through a broker?

Policies that look similar on price can differ a great deal in what they actually pay for. As your broker, we act on your behalf. We’ll ask the right questions, compare options, explain the fine print in plain language and be there to support you if you need to make a claim, wherever you are in Australia.

Farm Insurance: common questions

Does farm insurance cover bushfire?

Most farm policies cover fire, including bushfire, but cover for fencing, pasture and livestock can vary. We'll make sure the sections that matter most to you are included.

Can I insure my farm home and farm business together?

Yes. A farm package can combine your home and contents with farm property, machinery, livestock and liability.

Are my livestock covered?

Livestock can be covered for specific risks like fire, flood and theft, and in some cases accidental death. The available options depend on the insurer and type of stock.

Are my farm vehicles covered on public roads?

Registered farm vehicles need motor insurance, and CTP through your state’s registration scheme. Farm packages often cover unregistered machinery on the farm and limited road use, such as moving between paddocks, but conditions vary. We’ll check how your vehicles and machinery are actually used.

How should I value hay and stored grain?

Hay and grain are usually insured at market value, which can change significantly through the season and from year to year. Review your sums insured regularly, especially after harvest, and ask about seasonal increases so your cover keeps pace with what’s in your sheds and stacks.

How to get a farm insurance quote

Getting a quote is simple, and there is no obligation. Call Carly on 0497 100 469 or send an email with your business name and ABN, a short description of what you do, your approximate turnover and number of staff, a copy of your current policy schedule if you have one, and details of any claims in the last five years.

If your contracts or lease set specific insurance requirements, send those too.

We will ask a few questions about your operations, approach suitable insurers on your behalf and come back with options explained in plain language, including what is and isn’t covered. Once you choose, we arrange your cover and send your documents, then review it with you at every renewal so your insurance keeps pace with your business.
