Tradie insurance for every trade

Whether you're an electrician, plumber, carpenter, painter, tiler or landscaper, your livelihood depends on your tools, your vehicle and your ability to get on site. Most head contractors won't let you start without proof of public liability. We help tradies across Australia get the right cover at the right limit, without paying for things they don't need.

Risks tradies face

  • Damaging a client's property while you work
  • Injuring a member of the public on site
  • Tools stolen from your ute, van or a job site
  • Your work vehicle being damaged or written off
  • Contracts requiring $10 million or $20 million liability
  • Exclusions for heat work, heights or underground services

What tradie insurance usually includes

Public Liability Insurance

The core cover for tradies, protecting you if your work injures someone or damages their property.

Motor Vehicle and Fleet Insurance

Comprehensive cover for your ute, van or truck, with options for signage and tools.

Mobile Equipment and Plant Insurance

For tradies running mini excavators, bobcats, scissor lifts or other plant.

What to check before you buy

Not all public liability policies suit every trade. Some exclude or limit heat work (welding, soldering, torch-on roofing), work at heights, or damage to underground services, which can be critical depending on what you do. Tools are covered under general property or a tools section, not public liability, so we'll make sure your tools are protected in your vehicle and on site.

Why work with a broker?

Policies that look similar on price can differ a great deal in what they pay for. As your broker, we act on your behalf: we ask the right questions about your business, compare options, explain the fine print in plain language and support you through any claim, wherever you are in Australia.

Common questions

How much public liability do tradies need?

$5 million is a common minimum, but many builders, councils and commercial clients require $10 million or $20 million. Check your contracts before choosing a limit.

Are my tools covered if they're stolen from my ute?

Only if you have tools or general property cover. Many policies have conditions such as tools being in a locked vehicle or toolbox, so it's worth checking the wording.

Do I need workers compensation as a sole trader tradie?

Rules vary by state. Sole traders generally aren't required to cover themselves under workers compensation, but you must have it if you employ staff. Personal cover like income protection is arranged separately through a life insurance adviser.

What happens if I add new services to my trade?

Tell us before you start. Your policy covers the occupation and activities you’ve declared, so new work such as roofing, demolition or work at heights may not be covered unless the insurer knows about it. A quick update keeps you protected.

Can I pay my tradie insurance monthly?

Many insurers and premium funders allow monthly instalments, sometimes with a small fee or interest charge. Paying monthly can help with cash flow, and we can arrange the option that suits your business.

How to get a quote

Getting a quote for your business is simple, and there is no obligation. Call Carly on 0497 100 469 or send an email with your business name and ABN, a short description of what you do, your approximate turnover and number of staff, a copy of your current policy schedule if you have one, and details of any claims in the last five years.

If your contracts or lease set specific insurance requirements, send those too.

We will ask a few questions about your operations, approach suitable insurers on your behalf and come back with options explained in plain language, including what is and isn’t covered. Once you choose, we arrange your cover and send your documents, then review it with you at every renewal so your insurance keeps pace with your business.
